Educate your yourself and your friends

Talking to a friend last night, I was reminded how totally ignorant most people are about nutrition and exercise. He was telling me about a girl he took to the gym and as they worked out and talked he discovered that she had absolutely no concept of a healthy lifestyle. Her comments were indicative of most people we know- they eat what they “like” and don’t exercise because it is hard. Pretty much everyone you know is like this and when they start having health problems (earlier and earlier in life now) they seem confused as to why. The new “normal” of overweight people who eat high fat and high sugar diets is hard to fight against because what people see as normal is well, normal. So I think a lot of people have resigned themselves to things like diabetes and heart disease simply because they see it as normal. But it is most certainly not normal any more that polio or AIDS is normal and it will kill you just as dead. So one of the best things you can do for your friends and family is to keep reminding them of this. Encourage them to eat right and eat less. Encourage them to exercise. And make sure you are a good example.
